Much has happened since I first started blogging and through the various ups and downs of the past years, I seem to have grown up.

(“Seem” being the keyword here, obviously. I can probably still get away with entering Neverland or Narnia, although C.S. Lewis is likely to turn over in his grave if I do — after all, I commit the dreadful sin of wearing lipstick and nylons from time to time.)

So hello world; this is me. I am neither special nor a dime a dozen, beautiful nor plain. Rather, I am a fairly interesting mix of contradictions: as passionate as I am tranquil, as cynical as naive, as progressive as traditional. I am a fiercely independent feminista who believes in equal rights but also loves being treated like a lady. I’m idealistic bordering on quixotic even though years of experience have pressed the need for realism on me. My feet are solidly on the ground but my head is often way up there amongst the clouds. Though I am commonly thought to be mature and responsible, I am really a child at heart, always wondering at the odd thing that is life.

Why, then, a blog? It is not that I expect to reach millions or entertain thousands; quite the opposite, in fact. I would in all honesty be surprised (albeit pleasantly) to have as much as five regular readers. It’s not about making myself heard. I have other ways of doing so and, though feedback would be nice, it is not expected.

Indeed, I write for different reasons entirely. My blogs have always been a strange sort of personal sounding board that – even if they don’t actually sound and are really mostly silent – allow me to structure my thoughts and somehow make sense of the world. They have been and to this day remain a platform for me to share my ideas, express my dreams and shout at a largely unmindful world.

If that sounds vaguely fun to you, by all means, stick around and enjoy the ride. If not, let there be no hard feelings between us; just close the door to contain the crazy.
